Disclaimer

Even when using the Brown recommended PDF export Settings, the file may still not process correctly. It is therefore imperative that the pages be reviewed prior to sending or by using B.Direct PageManager.

Please use good preflighting and file checking. This is an important step in any digital workflow. It is the responsibility of all parties - advertiser, publisher and printer to use this information to properly create print-ready PDF files.

General specifications to adhere to when creating PDF files:

  • File Types : PDF/X-1a:2003 (One page per PDF file).
  • Images: SWOP CMYK, 200 - 400dpi
  • Bleed: Minimum 1/8th” (0.125”) on all sides.
  • Spot (Pantone, PMS) Colors: Name all spot colors with proper Pantone Name. Remove all spot colors NOT intended for print.

Overprint Preview:
When viewing PDFs in Adobe Acrobat, activate “Overprint Preview” in the Advanced>Print Production menu. This ensures what you see in Acrobat accurately represents what will print.

White Overprint:
Please make sure all white objects in your document, including text, are set to knockout. If set to overprint it will disappear from the printed page. To check for white overprint toggle on/off the Advanced>Overprint Preview option and look for differences. If there is a change, please return to the original artwork and correct the overprint settings. When in doubt, view the page in B.Direct, as it will show the page as it will print.

More detailed instructions are available in the PreMedia Specifications that can be downloaded on this page. If further help is needed, feel free to contact your CSR. Brown Printing reserves the right to make modifications without notice, due to continually changing technologies.
