Omer Asad is a seasoned technology executive and General Manager with over two decades of experience building and scaling enterprise infrastructure platforms, SaaS services, and hybrid cloud solutions. He currently serves as the General Manager of AWS Edge Compute, where he leads engineering, product, and operations for AWS’s hybrid IaaS and PaaS services, delivering infrastructure such as EC2, EBS, and RDS to customer premises via AWS Outposts and local zones.
Omer is known for driving complex, cross-functional execution at scale. Prior to AWS, he served as SVP & GM at HPE, where he built and scaled the GreenLake Private Cloud as-a-Service business from inception to over $ 550 M in ARR. He led the integration of multiple strategic acquisitions, including Zerto and Cloud Physics, and was instrumental in transforming HPE’s infrastructure portfolio into a modern, cloud-delivered platform. As GM of Nimble Storage and later Zerto within HPE, he scaled revenue from hundreds of millions to over $1.2 billion while pivoting both businesses to SaaS and subscription-based models.
Earlier in his career, Omer held product and engineering leadership roles at Pure Storage, Riverbed, NetApp, and Sun Microsystems. At Pure, he helped drive product and platform strategy during the company’s hypergrowth phase. At Riverbed, he was VP/GM for the Cloud Storage and Edge Computing group, where he launched flagship products like SteelFusion and SteelStore. Omer began his career as a kernel developer and filesystems architect at Sun Microsystems, contributing to innovations in parallel file systems and RDMA-based networking for high-performance computing.
Omer is recognized not only for his technical depth in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and SaaS architectures but also for his execution-oriented leadership style. He has advised and supported GTM, engineering, and investment diligence efforts for firms such as HPE Ventures, KKR, and Ridge Ventures. He has served as a limited partner and subject-matter expert for startups in the cloud infrastructure space.
